2019 Annual Report

CCRR celebrated its 45th year in 2019, continuing the work begun in 1974 when founder Phyllis Helbraun received a grant from the National Council of Jewish Women. You can read more about CCRR’s history. This was a year marked by change and challenge, the growth of several initiatives, and the welcoming of new ones.

We hope this Annual Report for 2019 gives you some insight into our successes and a direction for our future.

Pyramid Model Hub

Social and emotional well-being sets the foundation for the development and learning of infants, toddlers, and young children. The Pyramid Model is an evidence-based framework proven to be an effective approach to building social and emotional competence in early care and education programs. NY implemented hubs as part of the federally-funded Preschool Development Grant Birth through Five Grant (PDGB5) to increase local coordination of services that support the early childhood community as well as support best practices. Goals include: Increasing the number of credentialed early childhood trainers and coaches providing professional development to the early childhood workforce to meet the social and emotional development needs of young children; supporting partnerships between early childhood practitioners and parents; supporting the implementation and sustainability of the Pyramid Model in all early childhood settings; and evaluating the effectiveness of implementing the Pyramid Model in New York State.

CCRR worked with our consultant Sheridan Provemba to implement this project, holding a Pyramid 101 in May to share with providers information about the Pyramid Model and the expanded implementation, attended by 11 representatives of child care programs in Rockland and Orange. Several providers submitted applications and three were chosen to participate in the expanded implementation, known as Cohort 4: Head Start of Rockland; Little Harvard Preschool in Orange County; and the Goddard School, which had begun some of its work in Cohort 3. A two-day kick-off conference was held in June, where Sheridan Provemba and Debbie Silver walked programs though the Benchmarks of Quality and various implementation tools. Over the course of 2019, Sheridan provided coaching for each program and we convened the Community-Wide Leadership Team monthly.
