In the news this week, we are hearing that Congress is negotiating a budget that may not include funding for child care. All the work we have done together – all the calls, emails, social media posts, and more – to advocate for early childhood education and school age care is in jeopardy. New York State is facing a potential $2.3 Billion cut in child care funding.
This is yet another instance where the Rockland community must come together to support children and families. (Click here to help.) Time and time again the direct correlation has been shown between quality child care and economic stability. Time and time again the direct correlation has been shown between quality child care and the early intervention return on investment. Time and time again the direct correlation has been shown between quality child care and student success. Time and time again the direct correlation has been shown between quality child care and breaking the pipeline to incarceration.
The work we do at Child Care Resources of Rockland, Inc. to connect families with child care, to provide resources and information to families and caregivers, to provide regulatory and professional development support to child care providers, is an investment in the future. The work we do with our partners – government, schools, business, and nonprofits – builds on that investment by building the community supporting children and families, the village it takes to raise a child.
During COVID, families needed to maintain social distancing, we connected differently with our community partners, usually through a computer screen. While we keep COVID in mind when planning to re-connect, the general feeling these days seems to be in favor of in-person events. We are therefore pleased to announce CCRR will hold a community Open House on Thursday, August 25th from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM and from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Come see our offices, meet our staff (we have many new faces – keep an eye on your email for staffing news!). Learn more about the work we do and help us continue this community building journey.
